To Quill the Mocking World

Diwali (There’s too much Noise)

Aditi Mishra
(2 min read)

For a soul that feeds on silence,

Today isn’t my day.

The sky reeks of countless explosions

That send shivers down my spine.

I try to decipher the waves

Passing through me

Hoping to discover a meaning

Behind the cacophony of countless crackers

And those blinding, temporary rainbows

Dancing amidst the hidden stars

All in vain.

There is just too much light

And it’s starting to hurt my brain.

My eyes have grown accustomed to darkness

And it doesn’t find the

Plethora of colourful, artificial stars

Intriguing anymore.

Every cell in my body cringes

As I go out and breathe Carbon Monoxide

Shooting out of all the happy souls.

No, I am not ready to shake hands just yet.
